A strongly positive correlation exists between the occurrence of a reaction and the frequency with which it is essential. b) The horizontal axis shows the occurrence of a reaction, and the vertical axis shows the frequency with which the reaction is blocked. Data are based on 1000 randomly sampled genotypes viable on glucose minimal environment with n = 831 reactions, the number of reactions in E. coli.
